Arsenal ‘prepared to pay £85m’ for Griezmann

Arsenal want to sign Antoine Griezmann and will challenge Manchester United for his signature, according to reports.

The Mail on Sunday run an exclusive which claims that Arsenal were unsuccessful in an approach for the Atletico Madrid player last summer, but will go back in again this year.

The chances of Griezmann leaving Spain do indeed look good, although Manchester United seemed to be in the driving seat. Paris St Germain might also have something to say about that.

However, the Mail on Sunday say that Arsenal are prepared to pay £85m for Griezmann – his release fee – and give the Frenchman more than £250,000 a week in wages.

The cynical among us might see this as a power play from Arsenal, a message to agents of certain players that their clients are not irreplaceable.

Finally, the article mentions interest from Chelsea and Manchester City in Griezmann, who is clearly going to be wanted by every elite club in Europe but has spoken of playing in the Premier League.
